I never imagined that photographing an engagement session at a historic train station would be on my bucket list, but that changed when Lauren and Chloe chose the iconic Johnstown Train Station as their backdrop.
Inspired by a stylish Anthropologie ad filmed at this vintage location last summer, their session perfectly blended the station’s historic charm with their own modern, unique style, creating timeless and unforgettable moments.
Stepping into the Johnstown Train Station, you can feel its rich history. The grand architecture, weathered textures, and intricate details create a nostalgic atmosphere perfect for capturing special moments. It was the ideal backdrop for Lauren and Chloe, whose aesthetic combined modern elegance with a nod to the past.
From the moment we started, it was clear that Lauren and Chloe were in their element. They moved through the space with ease, making use of the station’s old charm and the weathered textures that gave their photos depth and character. Their connection was undeniable, and the love they shared translated seamlessly into each image. As I captured their session, I wanted to offer two distinct moods for their gallery. To create a that bold, editorial feel, I began by incorporating flash for a grungier, more dynamic edge. I also embraced the soft, natural light that poured into the space, allowing it to illuminate their moments with a gentle warmth.
After hanging out in the train station, we ventured out just in time to catch the final moments of golden hour and take in a breathtaking overlook of Johnstown. Even though the wind whipped around us, it only added to the magic of the moment—there’s something about windswept hair that brings such beautiful, cinematic drama to a photo. The sunset was nothing short of perfect, casting a warm glow over the open field where Lauren and Chloe frolicked. The entire scene felt like something straight out of a movie.
Lauren and Chloe’s wedding is next year on the family Estate in Johnstown and I cannot tell you how excited I am for that day. If it’s anything like this session, it will be absolutely magical.
