RIVERS CASINO WEDDING | SARAH + MITCH

Jan 8, 2024

If you’ve ever visited PGH or live here and have gone down to the North Shore for a pre sporting event drink or to gamble the night away, then you’re familiar with the Rivers Casino. But did you also know they offer their space for weddings as well?! I had always seen their space through other local photographers and I knew it was on my list of places I’d one day hope to shoot at – especially with the addition of the new hotel right next door, The Landing Hotel. Before I get into the casino and how wonderful of a venue space it is, I need to hype up the Landing for a second. It has some of the most well-lit rooms that are also incredibly spacious that I’ve ever photographed here in Pittsburgh. Not only that, but the hotel staff is so kind and helpful – especially when we had some downtime between the family photos and the ceremony. They were kind enough to accommodate the huge bridal party and the family that showed up for portraits and let us all hang out in the lobby bar.

After family portraits and bridal photos, we headed inside for the ceremony. I need to give a special shout out to Cassandra who is the events coordinator at the Rivers. She is OUTSTANDING and went above and beyond for every aspect of the day. I’m so excited to shoot at the Rivers again in 2024 and a big part of it is because I get to work with her again!

Another reason I love this venue is because the sun sets down river which is again, so perfect for bride and groom portraits. We did take bridal portraits during the midday sun, but I’m always sure to grab you again in the evening at some point during golden or blue hour so you have those dreamy warm tones in your gallery.

One thing that really stood out to me in the reception space was the cards at every table. The table numbers had prop bets on them (because we’re at a casino duh) and the cards that were at every table setting were special to each table. Some addressed to family, other to college friends or friends they met in Florida – every card had something personal. On the back of all those cards was a thank you to the vendors which is something I don’t see everyday. I know my couples are endlessly grateful for me (and all of their vendors) but when we get a public thank you like that, it’s so heartwarming. I actually still have my little vendor thank you card on my desk and I see it everyday when I work. It’s a sweet reminder of why I do this job.

Now to the party – this was maybe the most LIT dance floor I have ever been a part of. Sarah is a 2000’s girlie just like me and we love the classics. All the good emo/pop punk/early 2000’s rap – that’s the only kind of wedding music that’s acceptable. DJ Breis was simply I C O N I C and I hope I get to work with him again!

Shoutout again to all of the amazing vendors that made this day what it was –
