One of my favorite locations for engagement photos in Pittsburgh is the North Side, specifically the Mexican War Streets. The area has a quaint, timeless charm that blends Pittsburgh’s grit with a New York City neighborhood feel, with its iconic, character-rich stoops.
It’s also Sarah and Carl’s neighborhood, featuring one of their favorite bars to frequent and spend time together. During the planning for their session, they decided they needed a few photos at Monterey Pub. They especially wanted shots at the bar. I also have to give a quick shout out to Monterey’s – they were so accommodating and kind enough to let us take a few photos inside!
After hanging out at the bar, we took it outside to the Mexican War Streets – one of Pittsburgh’s oldest neighborhoods. This neighborhood is best either early morning, or in the late afternoon/golden hour. The sun peaks through those trees just perfectly and creates stunning pockets of light and shadows. I’ve done sessions here at both times of day and you really can’t go wrong either way.
One of the highlights of the Mexican War Streets is the stoops. Each one has its own personality, from colorful front doors to weathered steps that tell stories of the neighborhood’s history. They’re the perfect little perch to pause, laugh, or share a quiet moment, and they give every photo an extra layer of character and charm.
Of course, we had to finish the session with a few photos featuring their sweet pup!!
