LOCATION INSPO | HIGHLAND PARK

Apr 16, 2025

One of my favorite locations in Pittsburgh is Highland Park. Just 17 minutes outside of downtown, the iconic reservoir is surrounded by a 2 mile trail that loops around the whole park. I’m most obsessed with the park’s stunning garden. You encounter it right when you enter the park and when the flowers are in bloom, it makes for the perfect backdrop for photos. Taylor and Jacob walk their dog in this park all the time so it only made sense to have the engagement session here.

This location in stunning at all times of the day, but to get that crisp, fresh day look, we opted for the morning at sunrise. We also wanted to beat the crowds and the insane heat wave that rolled through Pittsburgh. I don’t even think we covered a lot of the park but the areas that we did hit up, had the PERFECT light.

For the second part of the session, Taylor mentioned she wanted to do something a little outside the box (which you know I’m always down for). So I brought along a simple backdrop setup. There’s something I love about placing a backdrop in a space that doesn’t technically need one—it makes the moment feel a little more intentional. All it took was a $40 bedsheet from Amazon, but it added a whole new dimension to being in the park.

I always say the best sessions happen when the location means something to you, and this one was no exception. From the peaceful morning light to the creative twist with the backdrop, Taylor and Jacob’s session felt like a true reflection of them. I cannot wait to be back at Highland Park to create more magic.
